According to the Financial Express report on July 7, the Ministry of Industry of Bangladesh has completed the draft development policy for leather and its products in 2019 and will submit it to the Cabinet Committee for approval. According to the draft, finished leather, footwear, and leather products will be priority development categories, and it calls for the leather industry to be given the same policies as the garment industry to provide quick customs clearance convenience. At present, the leather industry is the second largest export industry after the garment industry, which can meet about 10% of the total global leather market demand. In the 2016/17 fiscal year, the export volume of leather and its products was US$1.23 billion.
