That layer of melt-blown cloth is too difficult! BYD masks production suspended!
As a responsible national car company, BYD was the first to respond to the disaster – switching to the production of masks, switching to the production of disinfectant, and making whatever the front line needed.
Within just a few days, a mask production line was set up, demonstrating a wave of powerful business adjustment capabilities.
For a high-tech enterprise that manufactures cars and power batteries, making a mask seems too trivial – isn’t it just three layers of cloth, two rubber bands, and a small piece of wire?
The fact is that just like producing a ballpoint pen, it seems very simple, but a small pen tip has been monopolized by foreign countries for decades.
Compared with the more complicated N95 level masks, BYD chose disposable protective masks with a relatively simple structure. As long as the raw materials are sufficient, this kind of mask can even be produced using purely manual processes – so the difficulty lies in the raw materials.
Although the raw materials of masks come from the textile industry, they are not textile materials without technical content as imagined.
According to the original official plan, BYD masks/disinfectants can be shipped in mid-February and reach peak production capacity at the end of that month – 5 million masks and 50,000 bottles of disinfectant water per day.
However, due to the constant shortage of raw materials and the price increase of more than 10 times, the production of BYD masks can be described as “difficult”. In order to meet the needs of its fans, BYD has launched its own masks in the official mall – they can only be exchanged but not sold, limited time and limited, no waiting when they are out of date, and only certified car owners.
Adopting such a method of preventing goods can also reflect its insufficient mask production capacity from the side. As for the front line, it is even harder to find the factory’s masks
Because raw materials have once again been exhausted, BYD masks have once again ceased production. Regarding the suspension of mask production, some insiders said that they were unable to achieve the goal: that layer of cloth was too difficult to obtain at all. The “layer of cloth” here refers to the key raw material for producing masks – the melt-blown cloth used for the middle layer. Although this kind of cloth is produced domestically, almost all production equipment is imported, making it difficult to increase production in a short period of time.
Of course, BYD is a car-making brand after all. As the disaster gradually passes, the historical mission of its mask production line will be completed.
