In addition to using sunlight to dry cotton, in order to not be affected and restricted by climate, save labor, and adapt to the needs of large-scale production, special drying equipment is generally used to dry cotton.
1. Drying process
The seed cotton drying process is shown in Figure 7-1.
The sub-cotton is transported by the external suction pneumatic conveying device, enters the sub-cotton automatic control box, and is evenly fed into the hot air duct at the bottom of the sub-cotton automatic control box by the feeder (air closing valve). The hot air sent from the air heating system mixes with the cotton here and sends the cotton into the dryer. In the dryer, the sub-cotton exchanges heat with the hot air, and the moisture in the sub-cotton is fully evaporated and absorbed by the hot air. After the cotton leaves the dryer with the hot air, it is sent to the internal suction cotton separator. The internal suction cotton separator separates the hot air from the cotton. The dried cotton can be processed in the next process, while the hot and humid air is discharged into the atmosphere after dust removal.
2. Composition of sub-cotton drying system
Sub-cotton drying system consists of air heating system (or heating device), dryer and drying conveyor system. The equipment composition of the air heating system varies depending on the heat source. When fuel oil or natural gas is used as the heat source for heating air, the heating device is a fuel heater or a gas heater, also called a burner. When using electricity or coal as the heat source to heat the air, the heating device is an electric heater or a hot blast furnace. When steam or organic heat carrier is used as the heat source to heat the air, the air heating system consists of an industrial boiler or heating furnace (heating device) and a heat exchanger (heat exchange device). The drying and conveying system is mainly composed of feeder, cotton conveying pipe, internal suction cotton separator, return air duct, ventilator (including hot air blower), dust collector and other components.
