In late May, the Korla cotton in Xinjiang entered the fourth true leaf stage, and the cotton in some plots reached the fifth true leaf stage, with a plant height of 10-16 centimeters. The cotton growth overall was better than last year.
It is understood that strong windy weather occurred in the local area on May 12-13, and a few cotton fields were affected. However, cotton farmers made prompt repairs and had little impact on the later period.
A local cotton farmer said that the weather this year is better than last year, which is conducive to cotton growth. At present, the main work of cotton farmers is to prevent and control cotton thrips, cotton spider mites, cotton aphids, cotton bugs and other pests and diseases, as well as cotton seedling chemical control. A lack of nitrogen fertilizer during the growth process of cotton seedlings will affect flower bud differentiation and delay budding; a lack of phosphorus fertilizer will inhibit the growth and development of the root system; a lack of potassium fertilizer will weaken photosynthesis and make it susceptible to disease. At present, cotton farmers use pesticides to prevent pests and diseases and spray foliar fertilizers based on the conditions of their own cotton fields, and no large-scale damage by pests and diseases has been found yet. As new cotton grows, it is expected that the first irrigation work will be carried out in early June.
