Cambodia’s General Administration of Customs stated that Cambodia’s textile and garment exports reached US$8.24 billion from January to September this year, an annual increase of 11.4%. According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia’s textile and garment exports in 2020 were US$9.5 billion, including garments, footwear and bags, a decrease of 10.44% compared with US$10.6 billion in 2019.
Hong Vanek, director of international economics at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said that although Cambodia has been affected by the epidemic, the textile and garment industry is still on an upward trend this year. Not only is there an increase in new investors, Export value also increased. This situation is caused by, on the one hand, investors’ trust and confidence in the Cambodian government’s measures, and on the other hand, Cambodian businesses benefit from orders transferred from Myanmar. The Cambodian Garment Manufacturers Association also publicly stated that although a community infection broke out in Cambodia in February this year and the city was even closed for a time in April, fortunately, Myanmar’s clothing orders from June have brought hope to Cambodia’s resumption of work.
