Invista Nylon Chemicals (China) Co. plans to double its existing nylon 66 polymer production at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) to 400,000 tons per year.

Following an annual capacity increase of 40,000 tons in 2020, this newly increased production will invest US$230 million to strengthen INVISTA’s comprehensive nylon 66 value chain in China, Allowing it to respond more quickly to growing needs.

The expanded production line is located at SCIP and will be equipped with 6 intermittent high-pressure boilers and 3 continuous polymerization lines.

Additional capacity will support growth in the engineering polymers, industrial and apparel sectors and meet downstream application needs for nylon 66 products and solutions, including enhanced mechanical properties , higher temperature resistance, higher heat resistance.

Pete Brown, executive vice president of INVISTA Nylon Polymers, mentioned: The growing demand for nylon 66 polymer in China and the Asia-Pacific region has encouraged us to continue investing in the past few years. As our capacity expands, we will be able to assist our customers in meeting growing demand for nylon products.

Product line construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2022 and be put into operation in the first quarter of 2024. Supporting the expansion is INVISTA’s upcoming Asia Innovation Center, which will bring stronger research and service capabilities to support downstream partners and seize growth opportunities driven by innovation and high-quality development.
