1. The restart or delay of the paraxylene unit of Jinling Petrochemical due to flashover in the reforming unit
On October 9, 2016, the feed filter flange leaked and caught fire during the start-up of Jinling Petrochemical’s reforming unit. It is currently being dealt with on site. The PX unit of Jinling Petrochemical has a production capacity of 600,000 tons. The unit has been under maintenance since mid-August. The fire may affect the restart of the device, and the restart time will be delayed.
2. Fire accident occurred in Jurong plant in Singapore
On April 20, 2016, a fire broke out in a large oil storage depot on Jurong Island in Singapore. The Civil Defense Force dispatched about 150 personnel to participate in the fire-fighting operation. The fire burned wildly for nearly five hours before it was extinguished. The fire involved Singapore’s Jurong aromatics production capacity of 800,000 tons/year PX unit. However, the unit has been closed due to funding problems since December 2014, which has had little impact on the market. In July this year, the funding problem of the aromatics project was resolved, and the device was restarted and resumed production.
3. Jiangsu Shenghong Chemical Fiber will join ACP as a formal member
Jiangsu Shenghong Chemical Fiber will become a formal member of PX ACP (Asian PX Contract Price System) from January 2017. Japan’s JX Nippon Oil and Energy, South Korea’s S-Oil and SK General Chemical have expressed their willingness to accept Sheng Hong’s joining, and the probability of achieving ACP next year will increase.
4. Trial operation of PX device with a production capacity of 2.2 million tons in India
In December 2016, India’s PX device with a production capacity of up to 2.2 million tons was commissioned, marking an increase of 2.2 million tons in total PX production capacity in Asia. Most of India’s PX products are exported to China, which means that China’s PX import sources will further expand.
5. Hanbang’s PTA production capacity of 2.2 million tons was put into operation
Since the shutdown of the Far East and Xianglu units in 2016, the overall PTA supply pattern has been stable. In 2016, only Jiangyin Hanbang Petrochemical put into operation a new unit with a capacity of 2.2 million tons/year. Due to the sluggish processing fee performance in 2016, PTA small factory units continued to appear. Maintenance situation, while the demand for downstream polyester is stable, and the overall supply and demand side is optimistic.
