According to Thailand’s “World Journal”, the manager of Levi’s in Thailand said that the total value of the domestic jeans market in 2008 was approximately 4.5 billion baht, a year-on-year increase of 5%. It is expected that the growth rate of the jeans market may slightly shrink in 2009. Affected by the global economic crisis and domestic political issues, consumer confidence will be seriously affected.
The manager revealed that most jeans manufacturers have already made adjustments on their own, including cutting marketing and advertising budgets and reducing production capacity. Some manufacturers have significantly reduced product sales prices by 50% to maintain market share, but the above measures cannot be implemented in the long term.
The manager pointed out that Levi’s also plans to adjust its business plan and will use a marketing budget that is twice that of its competitors to strengthen the production of innovative technology products. In addition, Levi’s will continue to open 4 more branches in 2009 to expand product sales scope. Levi’s currently has 130 branches in Thailand.
