On February 27, 2009, the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning on Chinese-made “JUMBO” brand children’s pants. The notifying country in this case is Greece. The product involved in this notification is children’s pants, the model number is NEW-05, and the barcode number is 0277233000033. The product is black and gray in color and has 1 side pocket, a drawstring at the waist and a stick button at the top of the cord. The number 5 is embroidered on the pants, and there is a label sewn inside that provides the product model, barcode, and washing instructions. In addition, the product also comes with a cardboard label, which indicates the product’s trademark, size, and importer information.
Since the drawstring of this product is 300mm long on both sides, which is higher than the 140mm required by the EU standard (EN14682), it is easy to cause injury to the wearer.
At present, the Greek government has ordered importers to take remedial measures.
To this end, it is recommended that relevant domestic production and export enterprises attach great importance to this.
