Bangladesh increases apparel exports to China

Bangladesh’s “Daily Star” reported that due to the recent upgrade of China’s clothing product structure, many low-end clothing product manufacturers have closed due to cost pressures. China’s demand for low-end clothing imports continues to increase. The Bangladeshi clothing industry has Begin to increase apparel exports to China. In fiscal year 2008, Bangladesh’s garment exports to China were US$9.76 million, including US$3.07 million of knitted garments, a four-fold increase over fiscal year 2007, and US$6.69 million of woven garments, an increase of 5.8% over fiscal year 2007. The Bangladesh Export Promotion Agency plans to submit a list of goods to the Ministry of Commerce in the near future to request the Chinese government to grant zero-tariff treatment to promote Bangladeshi garment exports.
