Vietnam’s main commodity exports fell sharply

According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, Vietnam’s merchandise exports in January 2009 were only US$3.8 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 25%. The export value of almost all major commodities fell sharply, with textiles and clothing falling by 33.2%; footwear falling by 25.8%. At the same time, imports were only US$4.1 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 45%.
