Starting from April 1, Botswana’s “Import Inspection Standards Regulations” will be officially implemented. The regulations stipulate that 19 types of products, including imported plugs and sockets, must apply for and obtain inspection certificates in advance, otherwise they will not be imported.

The regulations stipulate that there are three ways to apply for a certificate of conformity: two weeks before the goods arrive at the port, apply to the Botswana Bureau of Standards. The country’s Bureau of Standards will decide whether to issue an inspection certificate after taking samples of the goods and analyzing them; The relevant institutions of the exporting country that have signed a cooperation agreement with the bureau will certify the exported products, which can be directly imported; manufacturers in the exporting country apply to the country’s standards bureau in advance for certification, and mark them on the exported products, which can be directly imported. Under special circumstances, the country’s Bureau of Standards may issue a conditional release certificate and continue inspection after the goods enter Botswana. Goods that do not meet the standards are not allowed to enter Botswana and will be forced to be shipped back to the original exporting country or processed locally in Botswana on the premise of ensuring no environmental impact, and the importer will bear the relevant costs.

The African market has broad prospects. There is a huge demand for imports of mechanical and electrical products, textiles, clothing and high-tech products. The import and export trade volume between China and Africa continues to grow. While “Made in China” focuses on the markets of developed countries such as Europe and the United States, it is also actively expanding the African market. Unfortunately, the Botswana Bureau of Standards currently only cooperates with certification agencies in Zimbabwe and South Africa. It has not yet cooperated with our relevant agencies and has not certified our manufacturers.

Therefore, the inspection and quarantine department reminds that in the context of the international financial crisis, it is of great significance to maintain and expand the African market. The majority of enterprises striving to broaden their export routes must attach great importance to the “Import Inspection Standards Regulations” and comprehensively compare the three achievements. Inspect the certificate of conformity, and choose the most convenient, economical and time-saving way for the enterprise to actively apply for certification certificates for export products to prevent goods from being forcibly returned or destroyed because they do not meet Bo country standards.
