On October 31, 2008, the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning on the Chinese-made “TEDDY BYKIDS BAG” toy backpack. The country notifying this case is Germany. This toy backpack looks like a fabric bear about 20cm long, with soft filling inside. It also comes with zippers, handles and detachable straps. The product brand is “BYKIDS BAG” and the sample barcode is 4042624117807.
Because the strap of this product is 95cm long, far exceeding the EU’s maximum limit of 22cm, there is a risk of strangling children’s necks. This product does not comply with the EU Toy Directive and the relevant EU standard EN71.
At present, the German government has ordered the product to be withdrawn from the market, and importers have responded positively.
Therefore, it is recommended that relevant domestic production and export enterprises attach great importance to this.
