Lai Xingyuan said: Measures to ensure fair trade in the textile industry will not be discounted

Lai Xingyuan, chairman of the mainland committee of the Taiwan Executive Yuan, said that the “measures for the treatment of goods import relief” will delete the relevant provisions of “Mainland Textile Import Relief”. You can still petition the government to take anti-dumping tax measures on mainland goods, and the government will ensure that fair trade measures in the textile industry are not discounted.

Media reports indicate that the Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced that it will revise the “Measures for the Handling of Goods Import Relief Cases” and will delete the relevant provisions of “Mainland Textile Import Relief”, which may prevent Taiwanese textile manufacturers from applying to the government to impose anti-dumping duties on mainland textile imports in accordance with relevant regulations.

Lai Xingyuan held a press conference together with the International Trade Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Trade Investigation Committee, the Customs Department of the Ministry of Finance and relevant industry players. Lai Xingyuan first asked the textile industry not to panic due to false and false reports. All the government’s WTO-related measures “are still in place and will not be discounted.”

Regarding the relevant provisions of “Mainland Textile Import Relief”, Lai Xingyuan said that the provisions were formulated based on the content of the membership commitment letter signed by mainland China and the WTO, but its validity period will expire at the end of this year, so the Ministry of Economic Affairs decided to amend the relevant regulations.

Lai Xingyuan said that in the future, relevant businesses can still petition the government to take import relief measures for mainland goods, including textiles, based on the relevant provisions of the same measure, “Mainland Goods Import Relief”; in addition, in the future, relevant businesses can petition the government against any trading rival manufacturers. Anti-dumping duties can be levied in accordance with the “Measures for the Imposition of Balanced Taxes and Anti-dumping Duties” formulated by the Ministry of Finance.
