President Wang Shenyang meets with President of the French Garment Industry Federation Mochoux

On October 24, 2008, President Wang Shenyang met with the visiting new president of the French Garment Industry Federation, Mr. Moschoux, at the Chamber of Commerce. The two parties mainly discussed how the Chinese and French textile industries can deepen cooperation and develop together under the current international situation.

Chairman Wang first congratulated Mr. Mo Shu on his election as president. He pointed out that China’s textile and garment industry is currently facing unprecedented difficulties, and the negative impact of the financial crisis on China’s textile exports has already emerged.

Mr. Moshu said that for the French garment industry, employment is the most important issue. After a sales boom in 2007, the situation took a turn for the worse in 2008. The impact of the financial crisis has spread across the world. We hope that industries in all countries can actively work to combat the crisis.

President Wang agreed. He pointed out that associations on both sides should work hard to promote further cooperation between industries, which is also an inherent need for the development of China’s textile industry. As the consumption power and level of the Chinese people improve, French high-end clothing will have more opportunities to expand its sales in China. At present, many European and American brands are rapidly expanding the number of Chinese stores and achieving remarkable sales results. France is the leader in the world’s clothing industry and should actively explore the Chinese market. Moreover, compared to other countries such as Italy and the United Kingdom, French men’s clothing styles are more suitable for Asians, so I believe they will be very popular in China.

Mr. Moshu said that France is currently China’s 14th source of clothing imports, and there is still a lot of room for effort and improvement. Facing the urgent international situation, the global textile industry should strengthen sharing, and he is very willing to promote cooperation between the Chinese and French industries.

Finally, President Wang and Mr. Moshu signed the “Memorandum of Understanding on Intellectual Property Rights” on behalf of both associations.
