Bangladesh suspends increase in industrial natural gas prices to help garment companies tide over difficulties

In response to the global financial crisis, especially the impact of declining consumer demand in the US and EU markets on Bangladesh’s garment exports, and to help companies tide over the difficulties, the Bangladeshi government has decided not to increase the price of industrial natural gas for the time being. It is reported that due to insufficient power supply, 4,500 garment manufacturers in Bangladesh rely on their own gas motors to generate electricity. The unit price of natural gas in Bangladesh is only US$1.5, while in India it is as high as US$4.5.
