The quantity of shoes imported by Italy from China decreases and the unit price increases

According to the website of the Italian National Shoe Manufacturers Association, Italy imported a total of 180 million pairs of shoes from January to May 2008, a decrease of 6.6% from the same period in 2007; the total import value was 1.35 billion euros, a slight increase of 0.3%; The average import unit price was 7.5 euros/pair, an increase of 7.4%.

China is still the largest source of imported shoes to Italy, but the number has declined. In the first five months of 2008, Italy imported 98.418 million pairs of various shoes from China, a decrease of 12.1%; the import value was 320 million euros, an increase of 3.7%; the average import unit price was 3.2 euros per pair, an increase of 18.1%.

According to data from the association, the number of leather shoes imported by the EU from China fell by 7.1% from January to May 2008, while the number of leather shoes imported from Vietnam increased by 8.3%. The number of Italian leather shoes imported from the above two countries decreased by 0.5%.
