In recent years, Baima Village has become famous locally for its silkworm industry. However, a few years ago, the villagers still mainly cultivated traditional crops. Now, taking advantage of the opportunity of the party branch to lead the collective cooperative, the village has achieved a “counterattack” on the new road of vigorously developing characteristic industries.
In the sericulture base of the village cooperative, standard factory buildings stand. In the sericulture greenhouse, densely packed white silkworms squirmed on the tender green mulberry leaves, making “rustling” sounds from time to time. In a factory next door, sheets of woven silk floss are hanging to dry, waiting to be processed into silk quilts.
Village director Zhang Jian told reporters that Baima Village has beautiful mountains and clear waters, no severe cold in winter and cool summers, which provides good conditions for the development of the silkworm industry. The village adopted the “company + branch + cooperative + farmer” model and established the Baima Village Supply and Marketing Cooperative. The cooperative signed a planting, breeding and marketing guarantee agreement with the company. Currently, 3,150 acres of mulberry trees are planted in the village, laying the foundation for the development of the sericulture industry.
“In fact, at the beginning, the village’s two committees also tried to grow peppers, garlic, and ginger, but the results were not satisfactory due to various reasons. Later they decided to try the sericulture industry.” Zhang Jian said, Baima With the help of superior departments and the town party committee and government, the village organized villagers to visit Guangxi twice to inspect the sericulture industry. In 2018, Guizhou Jiangning Sericulture Co., Ltd. was introduced to the village to plant mulberry trees. After several years of development, the sericulture base reached its current scale.
It is reported that Guizhou Jiangning Sericulture Co., Ltd. provides free technical guidance to the cooperative. Under the guidance of the company, the cooperative follows the “five unifications” (i.e. unified planning and design, unified technical guidance, unified planting and breeding, unified planting and breeding, Unified disinfection and epidemic prevention, unified market sales and the next step of developing family ecological farms (decentralized planting and breeding) are standardized operations to achieve a win-win situation of increasing the income of the masses and strengthening the village-level collective economy.
In terms of profit distribution, Baima Village Cooperative signed an agreement with farmers. Farmers participate in dividends through land, capital and labor shares. At the end of the year, 5% of the profit will be withdrawn as village collective economic accumulation, and 25% as cooperative The next step is to roll out the development funds, and the remaining 70% will be distributed as dividends according to the members’ shareholding ratio.
“In addition to planting mulberry trees, the village cooperative also built a sericulture community and a silk quilt processing factory covering an area of more than 30 acres, and created the ‘Lingnan Baima’ silk quilt brand, with a market price of 398 yuan per pound. “The supply of products exceeds demand.” Zhang Jian said that this year the cooperative produced more than 3,750 kilograms of silk quilts, with an estimated output value of nearly 2 million yuan and a net income of 800,000 yuan.
Nowadays, mulberry trees are planted on the mountain, silkworms are raised at the foot of the mountain, and the busy processing in the factory is a true reflection of the development of the silkworm industry in Baima Village. After several years of hard work, Baima Village has won many honors such as “Citywide Civilized Village”, “Provincial Women’s Demonstration Village”, “National Rural Governance Demonstration Village” and “National Civilized Villages and Towns”.
Talk about future plans, Zhang Jian said that in the future, the village cooperative will continue to expand the planting area, create a tourist area, promote the extension of the textile industry chain and actively develop mulberry leaf tea making, and fully promote the transformation from traditional agriculture to ecological Agriculture, efficient agricultural transformation.
