Jordan Textile and Readymade Clothing Group said Jordanian clothing and footwear import taxes and duties are “the highest not only in the region but in the world,” according to the Jordan Times. . Jordan currently levies the following taxes on imported clothing:
Customs fee 20%, sales tax 16%, customs duty 5%, income tax 2%, miscellaneous tax 1.5%. In addition to the 30% customs fee, other tax rates mentioned above are applicable to footwear.
In addition to paying costs and 50-60% of fees when importing, industry traders also have to bear operating expenses. The group called on the government to reduce taxes and duties on children’s clothing and footwear, or to make them completely tax-free depending on economic conditions. The tax relief will reduce clothing prices by at least 35%.
