Foreign news reported on July 17 that the demand for cotton yarn in northern India has not improved, although buying in the south has increased. Cotton yarn prices fell further by Rs 2/kg in Ludhiana and prices in Delhi remained stable amid subdued demand. According to trade sources, market sentiment has not improved even as the new week begins as the market awaits stronger demand from the textile industry.
Cotton yarn prices in Ludhiana fell by Rs 2/kg. A local trader said: “The textile industry remains calm. Fabric manufacturers purchase cotton yarn entirely to meet current needs. Only after the spinning mills in southern India cease production can the actual supply and demand situation be assessed.”

Cotton yarn prices held steady in Delhi as sluggish buying in the textile industry triggered bearish sentiment. A Delhi-based businessman said: “The market is not responding to the upcoming festival-related trade activities. The festival season may be delayed by about a month, which will contribute to the bearish trend. However, festival demand is expected to emerge.”
